Director of Organ Procurement

The Director of Organ Procurement is responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, and directing all organ procurement activities in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures, legal, contractual, corporate and regulatory requirements.  The Director of Organ Procurement directly supervises and monitors the quality of services provided by the organ procurement staff.  In addition, the Director of Organ Procurement is responsible to serve on the Legacy of Life Hawaii Management Team which includes weekly management meetings, participation in goal setting and implementation, and in general support of the organization’s mission internally and externally.  The Director of Organ Procurement facilitates cooperative and collaborative relationships among other organ procurement organizations to achieve and maintain efficient operations of the organization.

The ideal candidate has at least five years of professional experience in healthcare with direct supervision of professional team members, demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team, coordinate internal and external resources, and achieve measurable results against goals. Prior experience in organ procurement and/or transplantation is required.

Hospital Services Coordinator

The Hospital Services Coordinator (HSC) works to increase organ, tissue and eye donation in Hawaii’s acute care hospitals by facilitating optimal hospital practice in the donation process. The HSC conducts medical professional education, assists in developing and implementing internal policies and procedures to assure compliance with state and federal regulations, provides hospitals with quantitative feedback on performance, and develops and implements individualized plans for hospitals.

The successful applicant will possess strong analytical skills combined with demonstrated social and persuasive skills. Other attributes include:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Comfortable in a healthcare setting
  • Eager to climb steep learning curve in this very narrow but deep specialty field

Ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year experience working in a healthcare facility or in healthcare sales/marketing, or an equivalent of education and experience. Must possess a current driver’s license recognized by the State of Hawaii and have an insured motor vehicle. Bachelor’s degree in business, communications or health related field. One (1) year experience working in an organ procurement organization (OPO) in hospital services preferred. Two years’ experience in healthcare sales/marketing, public relations, or communications may be substituted for OPO experience. Procurement Transplant Coordinator (PTC)

LLH is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate individual to serve as a Procurement Transplant Coordinator. PTCs evaluate organ and tissue donor referrals, oversee the clinical management of the donation process, and coordinate the surgical recovery of organs. PTCs also conduct professional education programs as well as develop relationships with health care leaders in an effort to improve donation rates. Position requires rotating 24-hour availability and travel to neighbor islands.

Ideal candidate has minimum two years of procurement coordinator experience and has CPTC or is CPTC eligible. Requires RN, PA, EMT-P or BS in health-related field with critical-care experience. Must have superior communication skills, attention to detail, and able to work well in a stressful environment.

Surgical Procurement and Organ Perfusion Coordinator (SPOPC)

Under general supervision, the Surgical Procurement and Organ Perfusion Coordinator (SPOPC) is responsible for planning, organizing, staffing and coordinating the procurement of tissues and perfusion of organs. The SPOPC provides onsite clinical supervision, guidance, training and ensures an optimal quality of work provided by the tissue procurement and organ perfusion staff in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.

The SPOPC is responsible for coordinating and ensuring adequate coverage of the surgical procurement of tissue, arranging team transportation, operating-room (OR) scheduling, and assembly of all necessary staffing, equipment and supplies. Position requires 24-hour availability and travel to neighbor islands.

Ideal candidate has an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in science or health-related field, or Surgical Technician Certificate and three (3) years of experience in health-related field with critical-care experience. Experience in organ perfusion and tissue recovery may substitute for the educational background. Must possess a current driver’s license recognized by the State of Hawaii.
